PSSP Level 2 Quadkids

PSSP Level 2 Quadkids

Tuesday 28th April 2015

On a deceptively chilly Tuesday afternoon 11 schools arrived at Brickfields for the first outdoor competition of the summer. Despite the wind lots of teachers and parents came to watch their young athletes compete in track and field events as a team of 8; 4 boys and 4 girls. The children were very enthusiastic at the chance to compete against other schools and showed great team spirit.

QuadKids Primary - for Year 5-6 children includes: 75m Sprint, 600m Run, Vortex Howler Throw and Standing Long Jump. All of the children compete in all of the events. They are then awarded points based on their distance or time achieved.

For example in Sportshall Athletics children are awarded points based on their finishing position in the race e.g. 10 points for 1st, 8 points for 2ndplace. Quadkids awards points based on their athletic performance, so even if they came 2nd or 3rd in the race, the time they ran might still be in the same points bracket as 1st place e.g. in the 75m sprint anyone with a time between 11.0s and 11.4s would get 10 points.

The top schools go forward to the Level 3 Games, known as the Devon Summer School Games, on 24th June 2015.

A huge thank you goes to the young leaders from Stoke Damerel, who have been working towards their UKA Level 1 Award. Overseen by Keith Reed and Todd Hanrahan, they were given the responsibility of running all of the events, managing the timing and recording results, and being responsible for the athletes. Their enthusiasm and guidance made the whole event a great success. A big thank you also goes to Ryan Hammond for providing and supervising the leaders.
