Plymouth SSP Level 2 Go Ride

After all the rain and floods causing delays and ensuring our original course was scrapped in 2013, this year's level 2 Sainsburys School Games Go Ride cycling event was a breeze.

A few small showers threatened to soak the 56 young competitors at times but it certainly didn't dampen their enthusiasm or cycling skills.

With the girls kicking off proceedings and racing against the clock to gain seeded places it all to play for from the start. The boys then followed and once again there were some star performers.

These individual times then gave us the seeded places ready for the mass races and with team points and place at the level 3 games in Exeter up for grab it was fast and furious.

After all eight races it was time to add up the total team points and then hand over to the young leaders from St Boniface college, who had done a sterling job throughout the event officiating, to give out the certificates and medals.

Yealmpstone Farm and Victoria Rd took joint sixth with 34 points just behind St Peters RC in fifth with 52. Oreston came in fourth with 58, whilst Goosewell took the first of the medal positions in bronze with 76. It was now down to the last two teams both of which will represent Plymouth SSP at the level 3 event. After a tense wait the results were announced with Wembury taking silver with 84 points whilst Widewell took the top spot with a massive 108 after taking six out of eight first places and two seconds.

Well done to all the competitors and a big thank you to the National Trust who supported the event.
