Quadkids 2013

After months of indoor events , some of which when the sun was shining outside Plymouth SSP and its team moved outside for the first of this year’s athletics events and the rain threatened all day.

However as the actual start approached the sun came out as promised by the weather man and the 60+ young athletes ran, jumped and threw their way in beautiful sunshine.

The seven teams competed in the four Quadkids events which were long jump, 75m sprint, vortex throw and the gruelling 600m run with each athlete taking part in all four events on a rotation basis earning points for their teams and the chance to complete for Plymouth SSP at this year’s Sainsbury’s level 3 School Games.

All the teams gave it 100% and there were some excellent individual performances all round with Archie Hill from Old Priory taking first place for the boys and Emily Bee from St Peters RC taking first for the girls, however this was a team competition and with abated breath the young athletes waited patiently to see who would be crowned Plymouth champions.

In seventh with 944 points was Montpelier B, just behind Victoria Road in sixth with 960. Yealmpstone Farm took fifth with an impressive 1037 whilst Old Priory B took fourth with 1212. Third position was filled by Montpelier A with 1248 just behind St Peters RC who took the first of the level 3 places with 1300 points. However the gold medal and winning place went to Old Priory A who finished with a very impressive score of 1375 and will also join us at the level 3 games.

Thank you to all the Marjon students who helped set up and run the events and to all the young leaders from Stoke Damerel CC who were there very able assistants and our starters for the evening.
