Sir John Hunt Indoor Athletics 2012

When indoor athletics (Sportshall) was first introduced to Plymouth Sir John Hunt were the very first host, now eight years on the event is still going strong.

Supported by leaders from the Sports College and students from UCP Marjon the Plymouth School Sports Partnership heat (one of ten) once again did not disappoint.

This year saw three teams in the running to be crowned Sir John Hunt champions, Whitleigh, St Peters RC and Beechwood, and along with that mantle came a place in the Plymouth schools final which is due to be held at UCP Marjon in February.

Throughout the two hour event which saw the young athletes take part in field events such as long jump, triple jump and chest push along with various track events which included the 4 x 1 and obstacle relay, the lead and overall title changed hands on a number of occasions. However as with all events there had be a winner and after a tense final few events Beechwood took gold with a massive 86 points and will be joining us in February to take on Plymouth’s might. Whitleigh took silver with 72 points with St Peters RC taking bronze with 58.
