Primary PE Conference - Option 5 Bikeability Balance for Teachers (PSSP Courses & Training)

Back to calendar

The Bikeability ‘Balance’ module teaches riders to balance on a balance bike and can be delivered to pupils from nursery school onwards. You can use games to help riders develop cycle handling and awareness skills off road, moving the bike with their feet rather than with pedals. Riders should be ready to progress to ‘Learn to Ride’ training at the end of this module.

Aims and Objectives

By the end of the session the children will be able to:

  • Be able to put on their own helmet.
  • Get on and off a balance bike.
  • Move around and away from objects.
  • Gain coordination.
  • Be able to push and glid unaided.
  • Balance Bikes will help with motor skills.
  • Being able to stop the balance bike.
  • Gain confidence on a balance bike.
  • Progress to a pedal bike with having to not use stabalisers as a balance aid.

Course Outcomes

You will be able to confidently deliver a balance ability session and gaining knowledge on how to train your pupils to achieve the objectives. We will give you the knowledge on how to get your pupils on and off a balance bike, how a helmet should be fitted. Different fun games and how the games can be progressed through the number of sessions you deliver.
