England Rugby Introduction to Refereeing course

Date: Tuesday 18th March 2025 Venue: Plymouth Marjon University

Time: 09.30 to 13.30 Cost: FREE

Age: Students need to be aged 14+ years at the time of booking

The course provides development and learning around refereeing Rugby Union safely and effectively. Students will learn the basics of how to referee a number of elements of the game and how to; communicate effectively with players, coaches and volunteers, to ensure that everyone involved is playing in a safe and enjoyable environment.

This Officiating Award is aimed at gifted and talented rugby player aged 14+ (Year 9 & above) who show high quality leadership skills and who are ready to take their first step into the officiating of rugby union.

Whilst on course, the young people will apply the principles of refereeing through practical application and theoretical understanding of key areas in the game such as;

· The tackle

· The Scrum

· The Ruck

· The Line 0ut

· Kick Offs

In addition to this, attendees will learn how match officials implement & encourage the CORE values of rugby;

- Fair Play

Course candidates must be a minimum of 14 years of age at the time of booking the course. All candidates MUST register for the course using GMS. U18s must be registered by their parent/guardian.
