Option 1 - Physical Literacy
Having established ‘Why’ movement and physical activity is imperative for human flourishing during the morning’s keynote, this session focuses on translating Physical Literacy as a conceptual framework into practice. We will address the following two questions:
- From a pedagogical perspective ‘what’ do positive physical, social and emotional experiences look like?
- How do we design a school curriculum that leads to children and young people choosing to lead active lifestyles?
Aims and Objectives
Explore pedagogical principles and practice that supports learners to develop a positive relationship with movement and physical activity.
Introduce the principles of curriculum design and the learning journey focussing on the centrality of the learning intention for all teaching and learning activities.
Course Outcomes
Begin to understand how the concept of physical literacy can shape and influence whole school policy, curriculum and pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning.
Begin to understand the principles of curriculum design and how physical literacy can inform the design of learning that realises the aims of the Physical Education National Curriculum.
