PSSP Under 9’s Girls Football Festival – Match Report

Friday 13th February 2026 – Marjon University
The PSSP Under 9’s Girls Football Festival delivered a fantastic competition, skill and excitement as 10 schools took part in a two‑pool tournament format. Each team played every opponent within their pool, with the winners of Pool A and Pool B earning qualification to the Devon FA County Cup, scheduled for Thursday 21st May at Coach Road, Newton Abbot.
Group Stage Highlights
Both pools featured determined performances, strong teamwork, and some impressive individual displays. Across the morning, two schools emerged as dominant forces in their respective groups:
Elburton were in outstanding form, winning every match in their pool. Their consistency and attacking quality secured them the first qualifying spot for the County Cup.
Leigham topped the opposite pool and finished the group stage unbeaten, showing excellent organisation, resilience, and effective forward play throughout.
Both schools fully earned their County Cup places through confident, composed, and disciplined performances.
With one final qualification place up for grabs, Thornbury and Montpelier faced off in a tense play‑off match. Neither side could break the deadlock in regular time, leading to a nail‑biting Golden Goal finish.
After a period of end‑to‑end football, Thornbury struck the decisive goal, claiming the coveted third qualification spot.
Thank you to the 'Young Whistlers' who were our young female referees who recently completed this qualification and were able to put their learning into practice.
