  • Plympton Family KS1 Multi Skills Festival 2025

    Published 30/04/25

Tuesday 29th April 2025 – Today our team of Sports Leaders from Plympton Academy hosted 4 teams of children from our local primary schools. Chaddlewood and Plympton St. Maurice both sent along 2 teams, consisting of children from Foundation, Y1 and Y2 to take part in our friendly (yet competitive) Multi Skills Festival. Lots of excited (and slightly nervous) children took over our sports hall to try numerous activities and hopefully have a lot of fun. The activities range from tests of skill and accuracy with the Bean Bag Throw; team events such as a Sprint Relay and Ladder Relay; speed and agility with the Speed Bounce and even a test of strength with the Chest Push challenge. There were so many smiling faces in the hall this morning, it was fantastic to see so many children enjoying being physically active and challenged. I would like to say a huge thank you to our leaders – you really made the children feel welcome and enjoy all of the events – nothing but smiles and red faces. At the end of the event, the scores were all collated and the results announced… Congratulations to ‘Chaddlewood A’ team who were the overall winners today and ‘Plympton St. Maurice B’ who were very close runners up. Well done to everyone who took part today, we really hope you enjoyed it and would be keen to come back again.

  • Tor Bridge Family Tag Rugby 2025

    Published 25/04/25

Thursday 24th April 2025 – This afternoon 4 teams (3 from St. Matthew’s and 1 from Thornbury) came along to Tor Bridge High to take part in our annual non-competitive coaching festival. Today’s focus was not on winning but on helping children to develop their Tag Rugby skills and team work ahead of the PSSP competition later in the term. We had a real mix of experience in the teams but we had the talented Sports Leader Casey on hand to coach and lead the games – huge thank you Casey! All of the teams had the opportunity to play against each other but our super referee and teachers were encouraged to coach throughout and take the opportunity to spot those consistent errors and work on them. I really enjoyed today’s event – no pressure of the win just children enjoying being physically active and playing sport with their friends. For some of our children it was brushing up on their skills and for some, today was about learning something new and getting used to the many Tag Rugby laws. Well done to everyone who took part today, I hope you enjoyed it and best of luck in future competitions.

  • PSSP Cheerleading Festival 2025

    Published 25/04/25

On Thursday 24th April 11 schools came to take part in the PSSP Cheerleading festival. The afternoon started with pupils learning Cheerleading motions and putting these into a game of Simon Says. They were then partnered up with another school to take part in a carousel of six different stations. These involved learning how to safely and effectively complete different team stunts, tumbles and jumps.

The children did so well; determined to try their best and take on the challenge of each station. Many pupils had never taken part in a cheerleading session before but after a show of hands, lots would want to do it again! One person even said 'I was really nervous to come today but then everyone helped me and I really like it!'

To finish, each group learnt a short pom routine, bringing together some of what they had learnt throughout the afternoon.

Each station was led by the wonderful Cheerleading leaders from DHSG, who were AMAZING! They were enthusiastic, patient and so supportive not only to the children, but to each other as well. A huge thank you to Miss Bradley for training them prior to the event, and for all your support organising the event.

We can't wait to see what next year will bring, make sure to book onto this event early as it's really popular!

  • PSSP New Age Kurling

    Published 31/03/25

Friday 28th March 2025 – Another great morning of sport at Tor Bridge High with our sports leaders running an Inclusive New Age Kurling event for children in mainstream and special schools. We had 6 teams with us today, representing Leigham, Pomphlett, Plympton St. Maurice, Prince Rock, Thornbury and Holy Cross. On arrival, the sports leaders gave each school a demo and explained how to play – then it was straight into the action. Schools played friendly games against each other in a round-robin style format. New Age Kurling is a target-based sport that has been adapted from curling so that it can be played indoors, on a flat surface. Each player delivers a ‘stone’ towards the target at the other end by sliding it smoothly across the floor. The score is then determined by the number of stones closest to the centre of the target. After some time playing the traditional version, we changed the activity to increase the level of challenge and further develop their target skills.  All of the children that took part today received a certificate and I am thrilled to say that they all told me what a fun time that had and that they would come back to do it again. Thank you to our Tor Bridge Sports Leaders – you were fantastic with the children once again.

This Officiating Award is aimed at gifted and talented rugby players aged 14+ (Year 9 & above) who show high quality leadership skills and who are ready to take their first step into the officiating of rugby union.

  • U9s Girls Football

    Published 17/03/25

The U9 girls football festival took place at Marjon University with 6 teams taking part. It was a round robin format, so everyone had the opportunity to play each other. The weather was dry but rather cold, this didn’t stop the girls eagerly awaiting their fixtures. Games were 12 minutes long and teams played with 7 on a pitch at once. There was some brilliant football on display and some very exciting games. The final standings could not be decided until after the whistle of the final fixture that was between Leigham and Bickleigh Down. This game was hard fought and ended with Leigham winning 2-1 which put them as champions, congratulations to them and well done to everyone who took part. (For more photo's please check out our Facebook page).

A massive thank you to Marjon University for the facilities and Sir John Hunt and Notre Dame for providing great referees who completed their refereeing course last week.
