Take 260 year 7 pupils from 6 different secondary schools and then mix them up to form 28 Olympic countries and then rotate them around a menu of 13 different activities and you have a very different form of Olympics!
The pupils from Notre Dame, St Boniface, Estover, Eggbuckland, Sir John Hunt and Stoke Damerel were selected as they don’t normally have the chance to represent their school. The aim of the day was for the students to try a range of different sports lead by school sport coaches, supported by Sports Leaders from the schools. The sports included; Tennis, Basketball, Mountain Biking, Gymnastics, Cheerleading, Table Tennis, Boxing, Rowing, Judo, Dance Mats, Golf, Fencing, and Learn to Roller-skate.
Congratulations should go to Germany and Spain for their notable performances. All students involved walked away with National School Sports Week Certificates, information about local clubs where they can continue to take part in the sports they enjoyed, and a ½ marathon goodie bag (donated by the Plymouth Half Marathon Company). The winning team also received merchandise from Lloyds TSB. All the students were encouraged to think about the sports they enjoyed and talk to their School Sport Coordinators (SSCOs) who can arrange for the coaches to come into their school to next term to run clubs.
This was a fantastic event, a testament to the hidden talent in our schools and a big reminder to the diversity of sports and activities that are available to our students.
