Plymouth and West Devon Primary Athletics 2010
This year’s Primary athletics saw three days of glorious weather and three days of excellent competitive athletics at the Brickfields track.
With over 60 schools taking part this year’s event equating to over 1500 young athletes from years 3, 4, 5 and 6 the massive programme of heats and finals saw a high standard of competition from all who took part.
Monday saw heats take place for some of the year 5 and 6 events including 80 and 90 meter sprints, relays, vertical jump and long jump for boys. On the Wednesday it was the turn of the year 3 and 4 athletes who competed in 60 and 70 meter sprints and relays plus a few of the year 5 and 6’s came back to finish off their events which this time included the 200 meter event, vortex throw and girls long jump.
In each event the top six athletes were then invited to return on the Friday for a big finals event which was finished off with a medal and trophy ceremony.
Full results can be found by opening the attached links but well done to all who took part, won medals, and broke records.
Alongside the main event the staff and students from City College Plymouth ran a Pentathlon of events on the all terrain pitch which included a balance test, target throw and the high stepper challenge. Over 600 of the attending athletes took part in this programme and earned themselves a certificate based on their ability.
A big thank you has to go out to all who helped out on each of the days including coaches and officials from the Armada network, students from City College Plymouth, teachers from each of the schools and the dedicated team at the Sir John Hunt School Sports Partnership who assist in the behind the scenes work.
Next year’s event has already been booked and will take place on 20, 22 and 24 June, hopefully I can book the weather too.
