National School Sports Week Launch

Jason Gardener (Athens Gold Olympic 4*100m) runner inspired over 60 students from Sir John Hunt and Woodlands school to take part in a range of Olympic and Para-Olympic Sports as part of the lead up to National School Sports Week.

The week which is sponsored by Lloyds TSB has been created in conjunction with the Youth Sport Trust to create a focal point and celebration of the year’s school sport and encourage students to try something different using the 2012 Olympic ideals as inspiration

The action packed morning saw Jason giving an inspirational key note with the key message “never give up” and then answering a barrage of questions from our students. Invigorated and motivated by the talk and under the watchful and supportive eye of our year 10 lead learners the year 8s and  Woodlands students then took part in a wide range of Olympic sports that included Trampolining, Fencing, Judo, Disability Tennis, Disability Dance and Mountain Biking lead by our team of school sport coaches. The morning culminated with a taste of the Olympic Podium celebration as Gold medals were awarded by Jason to everyone involved as the National Anthem boomed out in the background. Fired up by the adrenaline from the moment a number of our students with their sights set high challenged the former Gold Medal winner to a race over 50m and although slow out of the blocks Jason stamped his authority on the track to once again claim victory!
