  • Rugby Success for Sir John Hunt Partnership Schools-Congratulations to Compton for finishing 1st and  to Widey who finished 2nd in the Devon round of the Tag rugby event. They will both now go to the regional event in Taunton on the 23rd June.

  • All coaches provided by the SSCO Partnership should now have and be wearing their ID badges in schools.  If a coach is not wearing their ID badge when they attend your school, you have the right to turn them away from their session.  Please contact Paula Morgan on 515385 if this is happening.

  • UCP Marjon BA & BSc Sport Placements 2010/11

SSCos, PLTs and Secondary Heads of PE will shortly be receiving, by email, information from Philippa Elford at UCP Marjon regarding offering placements to BA and BSc students during the 2010/11 academic year. Whilst these students have a wide range of knowledge relating to coaching, sport science, outdoor adventure and children’s PE and are looking for school based/related placements it is important to remember that they are not BEd students. Please read the information that is sent out, and if you are in a position to do so, return the form expressing an interest in placing a UCP Marjon student to Philippa. UCP Marjon are grateful for any opportunities that you can provide.

  • LTSB National School Sport Week – reminders.  The following schools still haven’t registered.   Plymouth Tuition Centre, Woodlands, Brooke Green, Millford, Tamaraside, St Budeaux, Keyham Barton, St Joseph, Ernesettle, Montpelier, Riverside, Compton, St Edwards, Widewell, Estover, Ford, College Road, Pilgrim, Stuart Road, Plaistow Hill, Mount Wise, Austin Farm, Widey Court and Marlborough.

Registrations! Only 800 schools to go before we hit our target of 13,000 registered schools for 2010. National School Sport Week aims to empower young people through the power of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games. Please help us to ensure as many schools as possible are registered by giving it one last push.

 What is the Get Ahead school leaver programme?

The Get Ahead School Leaver Programme offers those leaving school or college the chance to work at the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) in East London. They’ll be playing their part in the biggest show on earth!

Successful applicants will be offered a job from September 2010 through until the end of the Games in September 2012. They will:

  • Receive a competitive salary and pension contribution
  • Receive opportunities to complete further qualifications and training
  • Take part in a two week induction, followed by two placements in different departments, before settling into a permanent post which best matches their skills
  • Have the opportunity to learn new skills from world-class people!

Who are we looking for?

A diverse range of young people who:

  • Have completed, or are in the process of completing their A2s or equivalent.
  • Have achieved at least five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above, including Maths and English
  • Have gained some work experience
  • Ideally have been involved in a community-based volunteering initiative
  • Have a right to work in the UK
  • Are able to start a full time (35 hours per week) role with LOCOG from September 2010 through until September 2012
  • Have a passion for sport, culture and everything that the London 2012 Games represents
