The Devon Age-group Fencing Championships 2010 were held on 20th February at Tavistock Sports College. There were entries from all over the county , with fencers competing from Barnstaple Fencing Club, Wellington Swords, Sidmouth Fencing Club, North Tamar Fencers, Plymouth Fencing Club, Newton Abbot Fencing Club, Salle Lawrence Fencing Club (Plymouth) + Salle Lawrence Fencing Club (Tavistock), Marlborough Primary School and Stoke Dameral Community College.
Fencing has now been run at Stoke Dameral Community College through the Sir John Hunt School Sports Partnership for both school terms this academic year and has already managed to build a good base of talent for fencing. Youngsters Carla Curgenven and Kierun Williams both in year 7 at the school competed for the county title in their own categories. Carla finished 3rd in the under 13 girls foil event and Kierun not to be outdone by his school club mate also scooped a bronze medal in his event the under 13 boys foil. Their results are very encouraging and show that talented fencers are being spotted within the city at a young age.
Marlborough Primary School also had 2 fencers competing. A fencing school club link day through the School Sports Partnership was held before Christmas and Marlborough School fencing club was born as a result. Fencers Tristan Bate and Aidan Giley took bronze in the under 11 boys foil event and silver in the under 13 boys foil event respectively.
