Additional Opportunities / Information;
Registration is now open for Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week which takes place between 28 June and 2 July 2010 so make sure you save the date and sign your school up to take part at www.schoolsportweek.org.
Register by Friday 18 December and you will be entered into a free prize draw to win a sporting master class from an Olympic or Paralympics hero during the week.
Whether your school took part in 2009 or not, you’ll need to go to www.schoolsportweek.org and register for 2010 to receive free resources to help fulfil your objectives for PE and school sport.
Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week uses the power of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games to inspire more young people to take part in and understand the value of sport.
In 2009 more than 10,000 schools and 3 million children took part. Schools organised their own Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Torch Relays, inter and intra school competitions, pupils made Sports Pledges to take part in more sport and to try something new.
So make sure you join Lloyds TSB and the Youth Sport Trust in this celebration of sport in 2010 and sign up now at www.schoolsportweek.org.
Schools will be able to register at: www.schoolsportweekscotland.org from 7th December and will receive further communications through the Active Schools network.
At the end of the summer terms schools in the Plymstock and Sir John Hunt SSPs were asked to express an interest in placing UCP Marjon sport students during the 2009/10 academic year. Whilst several expressions of interest were received from primary schools only two were received from secondary schools (although I am aware several secondary schools have subsequently offered placements working with their SSCo). However, a number of students are still requesting secondary school placements and are approaching me for help. With this in mind I wondered whether you could promote this opportunity to the PE departments that you work with. If anyone is interested in offering a placement I would be grateful if they could email me – pelford@marjon.ac.uk
These UCP Marjon students are in their second or third year studying of a sport related degree and are looking to complete 50 hour placements between January and Easter. Many are looking to gain experience supporting/delivering curricular and extra-curricular sessions. As many of our students are also considering the PGCE or GTP route this also provides them with an opportunity to gain valuable experience in a school setting. Our students are CRB checked.

With the publication this week of the new edition of School Sport Magazine, we are already planning even more exciting and informative editions for 2010.
To that end we are especially looking for sports teachers to take part in our regular features My Sporting Life and A Life In The Week Of diary.
If you, or any of your colleagues, would like to take part, please let me know as soon as possible, especially those schools that haven't featured before.
We are also looking for contributors to take part in a special news feature and survey we are planning about cuts in PE and sport department budgets. If you have been affected by this and wish to offer your thoughts, either on the record or anonymously, please email us. The government seem to think all is rosy is sports departments but we have heard otherwise and now wish to establish if this is true or not.
Finally, we have a full list of our regular features you can take part in on our website www.schoolsortmag.co.uk
Have a look and get in touch. Go on. You know you want to.
Best wishes and keep up your excellent work
