A record 16 schools attended the first round of the Secondary Orienteering Event at the River Dart Country Park. The event which is run in partnership with The Sir John Hunt SSCo Partnership and UCP Marjon attracted a record of over 130 pupils from years 7 through to 11.
The morning saw all pupils trained in the skills of map work, navigation, and control punching leading to the afternoons closely fought competition.
The times from the event will be added to the final competition in Cann Woods in March and the points awarded will be carried forward to the main Multi sport Panathlon Days at the end of March.
Schools will be able to access further training in preparation for the Cann woods event by utilising the support available through the Schools Sport Partnerships to help map their schools and access Orienteering coaches for their pupils.
Congratulations should go to Devonport High School Boys and Girls Combined for winning today’s competition. Thanks must go to the 30+ strong team from UCP Marjon, especially Sue Porter for all her efforts in making the event run so smoothly.
