Plymouth and West Devon Indoor Athletics Finals
Today saw the finals of the indoor athletics for all age groups and with over 250 athletes from years 4 to 10 taking part what a competition it was.
The under 13’s competition kicked off the proceedings with seven teams from across the city taking part and with a place in the first ever county finals at stake all the teams pulled out the stops to make this an exhilarating start to the day. The athletes who took part in three field events plus a track event and relay gave it all they had and the lead swapped on numerous occasions but it was Eggbuckland Community College who came out on top beating a combined Devonport High School by three points. Eggbuckland along with three invited teams will now join us at the county finals which take place in Paignton on the 8th February.
The under 15’s competition took the afternoon slot and with many teams depleted by illness it turned into a three horse race but it was once again Eggbuckland who took the spoils. Well done also to Stoke Damerel Community College and a combined Tavistock and Tamarside.
Finally it was the turn of the under 11’s who after winning their academic heats arrived with great ambitions of reaching the under 11’s county final. Once again it was a tough fought competition with all teams showing that they had practised since the heats giving excellent performances in all the events. At one stage only 8 points divided the top six teams and it came down to the double point relays to decide who was going through. In the end Montpelier came out as victors beating Elburton by five points. Both these teams along with two invited teams will join us the county finals in Paignton on March 25th.
