Indoor athletics heats come to an end.
Over the past three weeks the Sir Hunt Sports Partnership have been running and hosting the Plymouth schools indoor athletics heats. Each academic council held a family event for its feeder primary schools and was supported by the secondary schools sports leaders.
Each primary school brought teams of 12 who competed in three track events, three field events and a team relay with the winners from each heat going through to the city final which will be held on 11th November at the Mayflower centre in Plymouth.
Well done to the following teams who will be joining us – Keyham Barton, Elburton, Weston Mill, Old Priory, Montpellier, Widey Court, Beechwood, Lipson Vale, Hyde Park Juniors and Leigham primary. All who took part received a certificate which included a list of local clubs who are accredited and run junior sections using similar activities. Many of these clubs have now reported increased numbers and the following news article was published in the Plymouth Herald.
“The Devon Sportshall league is one of the best leagues in the UK and has always been a great introduction to young athletes to the more traditional track and field events held in the summer months. The clubs in the Armada network are reporting a recent influx of new recruits and this is expected to continue following the recent primary school Sportshall events organised by Lance Chatfield from the Sir John Hunt Schools Partnership in Plymouth. The winner from each area heat will go into a final on November 11th at the Mayflower Centre. The five clubs in the Armada network who offer Sportshall athletics are Plymstock Road Runners, Plymouth AC, Erme Valley Harriers, Tavistock AC and Saltash based Tamar Trotters”
Thank you to all the sports leaders, SSCo’s and Armada network members who helped with the running of these events.
