Plympton Family Tag Rugby 2018

Thursday 10th May 2018 – A fantastic afternoon of sport again today at Plympton Academy. 8 teams from 5 different schools came along to take part in our annual Tag Rugby event. We had children representing Plympton St. Maurice, Woodford, Yealmpstone Farm, Hyde Park and Chaddlewood all come along to take part in our friendly, coaching event.

We were very fortunate to have 6 excellent young leaders from Plympton Academy with us today – they had the unenviable job of trying to referee the ultra-fast games. They did a fantastic job though and the games all ran smoothly and they gave some excellent tips/coaching advice to the teams – thank you all.

At the beginning of the event, we ran through the rules and explained that this event was not about winning. Our main focus today was coaching and helping teams to get ready for the city wide event coming up later in the term. This was also a fantastic opportunity for us to celebrate some of the School Games values such as Team Work, Respect and Determination. Once the games were underway, it was clear to see the amount of talent that our young people have.

There were a couple of teething problems concerning the rule of carrying the ball in two hands but this is exactly what this event was for. All of the teams adapted really quickly and there were some very impressive try’s being scored.

At the end of the event, we celebrated all of their outstanding team work with the young leaders awarding certificates to all who took part. We also had a special certificate for one individual on each team who their teachers felt was their Most Valuable Player (MVP); when presenting these certificates, the teachers explained the reasons for their choice and it soon became clear that it was those individuals who best advocated Team Work and Determination.

Well done to everyone who took part today and good luck with your future competitions. We hope that you all enjoyed it today and are looking forward to having you back for our next primary event.
