Secondary Inclusive Football 07.03.2018

The weather was kind to us this morning for our PSSP Secondary Inclusive Football event at Goals. We had 6 teams come along today to take part in a competitive football tournament with a bit of a difference. As well as competing for points to take the top spot, there is also a strong focus on one of the School Games values: Respect.

We encourage teams to try hard but the focus isn’t really on winning – we are looking for examples of different aspects of being good sports people – showing teamwork, determination, fair play and most of all respect; for ourselves, our teams, other teams and the young leaders who kindly referee for us.

We play a round-robin competition with 5 points being awarded for a win, 3 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss. There is also a special medal awarded to an individual on every team who demonstrates the fantastic qualities that we are looking for.

We got underway at about 10:30 this morning and it was great to see the sun shining after all the stormy weather that we have been experiencing. There was some fantastic football being played and some outstanding saves from some very determined goal keepers. Huge congratulations to St. Boniface ‘A’ team who were the overall winners today having won all of their games and well done as well to their ‘B’ team who were a close second place.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the young leaders from Stoke Damerel who volunteer their time to come along to referee for us and to Mr. Thomas who arranged them for me – thank you all. My thanks as well to all of the staff who bring their teams along – I hope you enjoy these events as much as I do and I look forward to seeing you at the next one on Wednesday 02nd May.
