Primary Inclusive Boccia 22.02.2018

Today was our first Primary Inclusion Boccia event for this year at Plympton Academy and what an opening event!

We had a full house today with 12 teams taking part from 9 schools across the city. Teams from The Cathedral School, Boringdon, Plympton St. Maurice, Leigham, Chaddlewood, Bickleigh Down, Old Priory, Eggbuckland Vale and Prince Rock all came along to take part in our very friendly and relaxed event.

As well as being an opportunity to learn how to play and enjoying playing against children from lots of different schools, these festivals are always a great way for us to celebrate one of the School Games values; Self Belief. I had the opportunity to go around to speak to all of the children taking part today and we discussed how important it is to try new things. Some of the children that attend these events often have doubts about new experiences and busy environments, but it was amazing to see so many smiling faces and everyone said that they had such a great afternoon.

Two schools have been in touch since the event to say that their children are keen to get a Boccia club started in their schools, so I think it is apparent just how important it is to believe that we can try new things!

I was fortunate enough today to have some brilliant young leaders from Plympton Academy along to lead our games and help children understand the rules and scoring. Kat from the Relays team at Plymouth University also volunteered her time once again to help us out. Thank you to you all for helping today – this event was a great success thanks to your commitment and enthusiasm. All in all, another fantastic event – I can’t wait for the next one!
