Primary Inclusive Boccia 09.02.2018

Our first Boccia event of the new year and what a great turn out; we had 10 teams from schools across the city come along to take part in our relaxed/friendly competition.

Teams from Plympton St. Maurice, Riverside, Montpelier, Cann Bridge, Drake and Marine Academy Primary all came along to take part and play as many games of Boccia as possible against as many different teams as possible in our hour time slot.

No experience is necessary to attend this event as we always have such great young leaders from Tor Bridge High on hand to teach the children how to play and score.

We do have some children who attend regularly and they were keen to show off their knowledge of the rules and scoring by taking on the role of leader themselves. We also had 2 other young leaders with us this afternoon from Cann Bridge who worked with my referees to run games and keep some scores, you both did an amazing job, thank you for your help.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Kat from Plymouth University Relays volunteering group.  Kat regularly gives up her free time to help us with our events and is so positive and encouraging with the children.

As well as being an opportunity to play and enjoy some Boccia, we use this festival as an opportunity to promote the School Games Value of Self Belief; we discussed the importance of trying new things/to never give up and to believe that we will get better with practice. Judging from the knowledge and skills of some of our regular attenders I would say that we have definitely proved this. As always this is one of my favourite events of the term, I am already looking forward to the next one.
