Primary Inclusive Boccia 30.11.2017

Today was our first primary inclusive boccia event hosted at Plympton Academy and what a great event it was!

We had 5 teams come along today to take part in our friendly Boccia event aimed at introducing children to the sport and having some fun with children from other schools. Teams from Boringdon, Old Priory, Plympton St. Maurice and Weston Mill were given some instruction by the young leaders from Plympton Academy and then we went straight in to a round robin style competition.

As well as learning a new sport and new skills, we used this festival to celebrate the School Games Value of Self Belief; we talked about how important it is when trying new things to never give up and to believe that we will get better with practice. We all agreed at the end of the event that the more games we played, the better we seemed to get as our shots were more accurate and we were better able to judge how hard to roll the ball.

The young leaders did a fantastic job today; it was their event and they set up the games, coached the children and refereed each of the matches; well done to all of you who volunteered your time – the children had a fantastic afternoon thanks to you.

These are always some of my favourites events in our competition calendar – it is great to see so many young people trying something new and enjoying sport. I hope that you all enjoyed today's event as much as I did and I look forward to seeing you at the next one.
