Primary Cross Country Warm Up One 2017

This year’s first primary cross country warm up event took part in a very warm, but also very muddy meadow at Plymbridge. Supported by the National Trust and leaders from Stoke Damerel Community College the event saw its biggest field at this location with over 300 runners taking part.

First up were the year 3-4 girls and not only was the entry bigger than ever before, but also the standard was higher than we have ever seen. First across the line was Millie from Bickleigh Down who almost caught our hare, whilst in second place was Ava from Cathedral who just piped Zara from Old Priory who took bronze.

The boys also didn’t disappoint, as this time Lochlan from Old Priory who finished first did overtake the hare, showing how amazing these young athletes are. Taking silver in the boy’s year 3-4 category was Rory from Goosewell, whilst in third this time was Ewan from Bickleigh.

The year 5-6 girls field was slightly depleted with only 11 teams due to residential and school trips, however the field of nearly 70 runners soon made their way round the one mile course in what was now a very muddy and wet course due to the previous two races. Crossing the line first was Lily from Montpelier, with Ava from Old Priory not far behind in second, whist another Bickleigh Down runner Grace finished in the bronze position.

The last race of the day was the boy’s year 5-6 category, which is always highly contested. Harry from Oreston led the way, crossing the line in first, however once again Bickleigh Down featured in the top three with Matthew finishing second. The final medal went to Ewan from Woodford who took bronze.

Bickleigh Down also featured in all four team top three’s finishing first in three of them and second in the other, and these team scores will be carried over to next week’s warm up at Eggbuckland Community College, which will see another fifteen teams competing to be crowned warm up champions.
