Attik Dance LEAP Programme

Attik Dance is a professional dance company that has been working in Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall for the past 25 years.

Attik Dance has a focus on creating and exploring Dance with children and young people, and they have created a programme specifically for Primary Schools called LEAP in response to the PE and Sports funding.

What is it?

LEAP is a Primary School Dance programme aimed at both KS1 and KS2 that will fundamentally change how your school and your staff work with dance.

Attik takes their extensive pedagogical and artistic experience to lead your young people and staff through a structured and stepped process of physical and creative skills development.

They fine tune their programme for each school and class they work with, as they understand that 'one-size-fits-all' doesn't work in programmes of this type.

All the work they do fits with the National Curriculum requirements of KS1 and 2, and their work has recently been validated by Ofsted through inspections of two partner schools.

The programme involves Attik working with 3 classes in your school for an hour a week (1/2 a day a week) for 10 weeks, and by the end of the programme your staff will be confident to explore dance across PE and in using dance to explore other curriculum areas.

The LEAP programme is both a wonderful experience for students and also CPD for teachers and any other staff who wish to be involved.

Attik has a national reputation for the excellence of their work with children and young people. They pride themselves on the speed at which all young people working with them can pick up the dance and ideas they share. They especially pride themselves on how they demystify dance for teachers and senior leadership teams.

Elisabeth Carney-Haworth, Head Teacher at Torpoint Nursery and Infant School recently said: "Attik Dance have been the very best value for money both in terms of professional development for my staff who are present and participate in every session and in terms of the development of dance for children throughout the school. Ben has worked with nursery through to Year 2 and every child has thoroughly enjoyed sessions, even some of the boys who might have initially been rather reticent. Teaching dance is not something that every teacher feels comfortable with but Ben has enabled all staff to have the confidence and given them a repertoire of skills to be able to teach dance effectively.  Of all the ways in which we have spent our PE funding, this is the best and most rewarding by a mile!"

If you are interested in talking with Attik about their programme, please email Artistic Director Benjamin Dunks at or call him on 07863117543 .

The cost of the programme is £1450. That includes the 10 half day workshops, initial training, a training manual that covers all the exercises and programmes and basic schemes of work.
