As always the sun was shining as 54 Plymouth and West Devon primary schools arrived at Brickfields for this year’s athletics festival. Themed on the Olympics the 2000 young athletes took part in events such as sprints, long jump and vortex throw before finishing off with the relays but before all that schools proudly paraded around the track in our Olympic opening ceremony.
With a full session of heats the morning was jam packed with activity and athletes were giving it their all to get themselves and their schools to the afternoon’s finals. With only six schools from each age group and category going through some celebrated as though they had won already.
Alongside all the traditional athletics students from City College Plymouth ran a shine awards style programme where the young athletes could take part in five events and earn themselves additional certificates throughout the day.
The afternoon’s finals soon came and one by one the final results were decided with athletes not only gaining themselves medals but also team points which put together could win them the coveted and very sought after Plymouth and West Devon AA team trophies.
For a full list of results please see the attached resource but well done to Ermington who took four out of the five minor category trophies and Manor who took three out of the five Intermediate trophies.
Well done to all who took part and a big thank you to all our officials who unfortunately had to brave the afternoon’s rain storms which all meant we had to cancel the closing presentation.
