After months of training the ten heat winning teams from across Plymouth came together to compete in the Plymouth schools finals. Right from the start all of the teams gave it their all competing for the prestigious title of Plymouth champions and securing a place at the county finals.
Each team of 12 took part in events such as indoor soft javelin, triple jump and long jump in the field whilst their counterparts took part in races such as the obstacle relay and the dreaded 6 lap parlauf on the track.
All 10 teams gave 100% and the noise was beyond fever pitch as they cheered each other on through the events. In the end it was Hyde Park who came out on top with a massive 430 points, closely followed by Old Priory in second with 358, Elburton in third with 326 and Lipson Vale in fourth with 318. All four of these teams will now go on to represent Plymouth schools at the county finals in March.
With excellent support from UCP Marjon and its students along with coaches from various Armada Athletic forum clubs who officiated, the Plymouth School Sport Partnership organised event went off without a glitch and was amazing to watch and be part of. The level of attainment was far greater than in previous year’s and some were on par with the under 13’s who had competed earlier in the day. This is due to the partnership created between the above parties who have set up a programme of training, competing and coaching which is turning heads in the athletics and sports development world.
