Primary PE Assessment - focus group

Event description

This event is run by Claire Cormack - [email protected]

I am working closely with Simon Smith (PE Coordinator at Leigham Primary) to put together a focus group to address PE Assessment in Primary schools.

Our rationale behind this is that there is currently no guidance from DFE/YST on a template for assessment in PE; there are various documents sharing advice on what assessment policies should achieve but nothing that schools can implement.

With accountability for PE being so prominent at the moment, we both feel that this is a priority area and needs to be addressed. As far as I am aware, the majority of schools are in a position where they either have no policy/practice in place or they have one that is not meeting the needs of staff/children.

With this in mind, we are organising a day to establish what/when/how and why we should assess in PE. We will be inviting along some Heads of PE from secondary schools in the morning to speak to us about their current process and policies so that any documentation that we produce can also provide useful data and aid transition. We will then look at what guidance is currently available and have discussions regarding any barriers to a universal document/implementation etc.

It is our aim that we will come up with 4 non-negotiable (as to what should be included) that meet the requirements of all schools/staff/OFSTED etc. By the end of the day, Simon and I hope to be able to draft a template that all of us can then trial in our schools.
